"The Ministry of Football programme allows children to experiment with their own ideas. The success of the programme - in terms of producing boys and girls who can play great football - is largely because of this non-prescriptive approach to teaching and learning"
- Marcus Tattersall, Senior Co-ordinator, Willington School, Wimbledon
Ministry of Football develops confident, creative, skilful children. We are different from other sports programmes in that we allow children the freedom to be creative and come up with their own answers. We are very much influenced by Sir Ken Robinson and Jamie Oliver, in that we believe schools should be a centre for all kinds of learning and growth, and not just centred around the core academic subjects. We understand that many children do not thrive in the classroom and exam room environment, but excel once placed in a high-tempo, movement-based arena.
We have been running successful programmes in Muswell Hill and Crouch End for the past 4 years. I am very interested in working directly with schools, and we can tailor our programmes to suit specific school needs. Ministry of Football has many successes over the past four years – whether it be in helping children to gain confidence in team situations; working with parents to help them understand the benefits of creative play; or developing elite players to sign for professional academies. Perhaps our most consistent success has been in helping players who “don’t like doing sport” to fall in love with football.
What we can offer schools will greatly depend on what they need. We can work with teachers, we can run after-school sessions, or deliver KS1 and KS2 classes during school hours. We can work with all age-groups, all ability levels, and are expecially adept at running sessions for mixed-ability groups. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss your needs with you – what is it that you hope for your children to achieve, and how can our programme benefit you? We can run some sessions for you so you can see for yourself why we have been so successful and why we are as different as we say we are.
Ministry of Football creates a positive learning environment by allowing children the freedom to make mistakes at an early age. We use music to enhance the atmosphere of creativity and to encourage movement and risk-taking. We are a founder member of the National Children’s Football Alliance, an organisation set up to promote children’s football for children by children.
Feedback from parents of children on the Ministry of Football has been fantastic.
- 88% of parents said they thought the coaching at MoF was Good or Very Good;
- 42% of parents said it was their child’s favourite weekly activity, and a further 51% said it was better than most other weekly activities.
- Research by Movement Dynamics showed that just 20% of an average school PE contains activity. Our own research, conducted by parents of children at the Ministry of Football sessions, shows that 82% of our sessions contain Active Learning.
A summary of our schools programme:
- We work with schools to understand their objectives and what they want for their children. We then design and deliver a programme for them.
- We excel in teaching. We only employ experienced teachers, and those with age-appropriate FA qualifications. Of course, all our coaches are CRB checked.
- We operate in North London.
- Over 100 children aged 3-10 from local primary schools attend our weekend sessions.
- We supply our own equipment, and can run sessions indoors and outdoors on any kind of surface.
