Each week, the coaches at Ministry of Football will give the children in their group some Howework. This is usually something from the Mastering The Ball component of the programme. It is essential that children practice with a ball between sessions - in order to become more confident and comfortable with a football at their feet, and to experiment and be creative in the absence of coaches or parents.

HOMEWORK ACTIVITY 1: KICK-UPS
Using left and right foot - try Kick and Catch. Progress to Kick Kick and Catch.
How many kick-ups can you do? Remember left foot - right foot - left foot - right foot....
Many people say 'kick-ups are a waste of time, you'll never use them in a game' - but have a look at these classic goals and see the way the goal-scorers use their kick-up skills to their advantage...

HOMEWORK ACTIVITY 2: THE DRAG TURN
Drag with underneath of foot, and move away quickly, practice left and right foot.
The Drag Turn uses the underneath of the foot to move the ball into a new space. What other parts of the foot could you use to do this? Invent a new turn using a different part of the foot. Give your new turn a name. And practice so you are ready to teach it the rest of the group next week.
HOMEWORK ACTIVITY 3: TRAP AND DRAG
Trap a falling ball using underneath of foot, and drag it behind you to make a quick turn.
Being able to use the underneath of your foot to trap or drag the ball is very useful, as these professionals show...
Trapping the ball under the foot helps us get the ball on the floor so we can pass, dribble or shoot. How else can we get a falling ball down on to ther floor? Experiment with other parts of the body. Which other parts of the body can we use to get a ball onto the floor?
HOMEWORK ACTIVITY 4: SCISSORS
Send the defender one way, and move past them on the other side...
and this is how the professionals do it....

The scissors move fools the defender by pretending to go one way, but really going another. Think of another way of fooling or tricking the defender. Practice your new move during the week. Give your move a name. And be ready to come in next week to teach it to the rest of us.
